Your session and Slack community are meant to be support for you as you go through the course. If you have a technical question or a question about your course material, reach out to your mentors and peers in Slack. Use your session channel to get help from your mentor and your Nanodegree specific peer help and project channels to reach out to your classmates. Your Nanodegree specific channels will look like this:
peer-help-[Nanodegree] Example: peer-help-fend
You should receive your mentor within 1-3 days of class starting. We are working hard to pair you with a mentor that will meet your needs. We are looking at your time zone and study habits to ensure that your mentor is online when you need them most. When you are paired with your mentor, you will receive an email from us titled "You've been matched with a Mentor!" letting you know that you've been matched!
Each student is assigned a session where they will chat with 14 other students in the same program. This group is meant to be a study group where you can learn alongside other students and ask your peers and mentors questions when needed. Once you are paired with your mentor you will see your session channel in the left hand navigation of your Slack workspace. The channel will look something like this: #ABND-Session-12.
Once you have been assigned a mentor, your mentor will share a Calendly link in your session channel. Using this Calendly link, setup a one on one meeting with your mentor. These meetings are an opportunity to get to know your mentor a little bit better and for them to hear more about your learning style.
If you still have not received a mentor, don't worry. We are working hard to get you paired to your mentor, but it might take us a little longer to find the perfect match for you. In the meantime, be sure that you have completed the onboarding process are in Slack. You will only be paired with a mentor if you join the Slack community. Additionally, be sure that the email you signed up with Slack with is the same email attached to your Udacity account. If you are still concerned that you have not received your mentor, please reach out to support at support@udacity.com.
There are separate chat channels for each of your Nanodegree projects in Student Hub and you will find your dedicated project mentors in there once your classroom opens. The names of your project mentors will be displayed in the top right corner of the channel, under “Channel Info.”
Yes! You may direct message your mentors in Student Hub anytime you need personal technical support. You should hear back within 48 hours.
There are currently multiple mentors for every project channel and we are in the process of adding more over the next few weeks. Many of these mentors are also reviewers of your project so they have additional knowledge to help you pass these technical projects.
In addition, once per week you will be getting 1:1 mentorship support over video calls from your mentor through Zoom. You will receive an email with the Calendly link of the mentor for scheduling a 1:1 video call. Once a time is booked you will receive an automated confirmation email for the 1:1 meeting with your mentor.
Based on student feedback and research, we have found that a more streamlined student experience is what students are looking for and can benefit from in order to be more successful in their program. To achieve this means we are making your mentorship available directly in the Udacity classroom, rather than in an outside platform (like Slack). We have updated the process of moving mentorship services to Student Hub, and your class is the first to benefit from this new streamlined experience.
