Data Science Discovery Boot Camp

hosted by Diversity in Data Science at UC San Diego

The Data Science Discovery Boot Camp aims to empower underrepresented high school students with the skills and confidence needed to pursue a college education and careers in data science. In this week long program, students will be introduced to programming and data science with hands-on activities that work towards making the topic more approachable and understandable for students with little to no coding experience.

Work in groups to explore exciting data science concepts.

 Overview

High school students in grades 10 and 11 will have the opportunity to develop an introductory understanding of the field of data science in a weeklong day program. The students will learn basic python skills and explore how data is formulated and cleaned. They will also learn how to create and answer data science questions as well as how to tell a story through the use of visualizations.  Through this program, students will be equipped with the foundational skills needed to analyze data and make informed decisions from their findings.

By introducing students to programming and analytical thinking skills in conjunction with hands-on activities, we aim to demystify data science and make the topic more approachable and understandable for students with little to no STEM background.
