Goals:
Deliver the stent to the target site with
a) High Level of Accuracy
and
b) Time Efficient
Prototypes
The RDK Deployment System utilizes a traditonal balloon dilation catheter and inflation device to expand the stent
The GA Deployment System takes an alternative approach by implementing a mechanical expansion
Due to the malfunctioning of the GA deployment system, the RDK deployment system was selected to be the primary deployment system to be implemented in the further testing stages. An in vitro test was conducted in a 3D-printed trachea model with a diameter of 8mm to mimic accurate physiological dimensions. After deployment, the stent was able to expand to approximately 97% of its original diameter with no migration. The entire procedure lasted 1.5 minutes. Based on the quantitative data that was collected, it is safe to conclude that the RDK deployment system satisfied the initial expectations and is ready for future testing protocols. Quantitative data were also collected during the testing which can be seen below.
Fit the stent over the balloon and into the outer sheath.
2. Insert the outer sheath into the trachea and to the target site.
3. Deploy the stent-balloon apparatus using the blue handle.
4. Apply 3 atm pressure to the balloon with water.
5. Leave the stent-balloon inflated at a constant 3 atm pressure for 30 seconds.
6. Retract the balloon back into the outer sheath and remove the device from the trachea.
