This piece is a demonstration of light cast on the body; it is meant to convey a softness and element of serenity with the glow of the lotus illuminating the figure. This drawing was created during Week 9--toward the end of the course and it showcases my growth as an artist in including symbolism and exploring color relations.
This drawing is my favorite from the first week of class in which I was getting used to doing digital drawing for the first time. It displays the attitude of the model, capturing her relaxed and poised position and some of the movement she went through, hence the lighter lines.
Here I wanted the viewer to feel a sense of mischief, a sinister air, and a potential story behind the character. This piece is meant to be a portrait of the character herself, lending to potential narratives and ideas about who she is, where she came from, what's on her mind, why her clothes look so worn, and so on. The anxious and jittery quality of the brushstrokes in the background only enhance the dark and unknown nature of the subject.
My 5-minute contour drawing shows the direct relationships between all the visual lines and folds, the various overlaps, and textures within the model's figure and her clothing.
