Before this class, I had experience with digital drawing however most of my work from live model sessions had only been done on paper/canvas. My drawings in week 1 used very strategically placed, straight lines to depict the convexities of the human form. While this technique may be useful in long periods of time, I found myself struggling to keep up with the fast-paced warm ups/ structure of this class.
In week 2 I took on a completely different approach to the model session. I stayed loose and made sure my hand never stopped moving throughout each new pose. This type of drawing was completely out of my comfort zone, but I believe it made my work so much stronger in a such a short period of time.
The different types of contour drawing was introduced to this class and one style in particular fascinated me- cross contouring. Through this practice I found a new appreciation for this style of art, exxpanding upon it in time outside of lecture. I hope to incorporate more use of this implied line into my future work.
