UCR School of Medicine Summer Research Program 2023
We are excited to announce our annual Summer Research Program opportunities for summer 2023 for currently enrolled 1st year medical students!
This year, we have expanded the program to include funding support for more students, a larger stipend, and a broader range of scientific disciplines than ever before. This expansion, generously funded by the Dean’s Office, is part of our ongoing commitment to provide students with inspirational and innovative research and scholarship opportunities.
Eligibility
All applicants must be in good academic and professional standing as determined by Student Affairs Administration. Students remediating a block are not eligible. Applicants will be required to attend an orientation prior to the start of the program.
Application Instructions
When applying, rank all opportunities that you are interested in.
You will only be considered for opportunities that you rank.
Please do not apply for positions you are not interested in, as this takes away from peers who have interest in a project.
If you are accepted for a project, please accept/decline within 48 hours so we can place a student from the waitlist into a position if you need to decline.
You will need to submit an up-to-date CV to share with your prospective mentor
Compensation
All accepted applicants will be enrolled in MDCL 290 (1 unit) and receive a $3,000 stipend through Financial Aid. The cost of the 1 unit fee will be paid for you by Student Affairs.
Expectations
To receive a grade of Pass, students must:
Complete the full 6 weeks of the program
Ensure that their mentor completes the mentee evaluation form
Deliver a final 10-minute project presentation in early fall (date TBD).
Attend any required laboratory or clinical onboarding at the direction of your project mentor.
For projects that take place on campus, you must appear in person as directed by your project mentor
Students must abide by all UCR SOM standards of professionalism, and ethics regardless of their site location.
Dates
Project dates run from June 19th, 2023- July 28th, 2023. Please note, the Community Health Education Projects, under Teresa Cofield will take place approximately one week prior to June 19th.
