Scholarly Activities Electives

Scholarly Activities Electives are available to third and fourth year medical students who are in good academic standing. These independent learning opportunities are designed to provide medical students with protected time to work on important scientific research and scholarship activities.

These include activities such as completing drafts of papers that were begun earlier in medical school, conducting literature reviews for new projects, analyzing data collected under IRB-approved projects, preparing posters, abstracts, or other presentations for conferences, or other similar work.

Scholarly Activities Electives must be approved by the Director of Scholarly Activities before the elective begins, must include a key deliverable that is the result of 30 hours per week of work, and be reviewed with the Director of Scholarly Activities within one week of the completion of the selective dates.

Contact your 3rd or 4th year coordinator to find out about your eligibility to participate in a scholarly activity.
