Professor Cooks lectured to us about how African American artists criticize and reimagine our history in order to bring about racial equality and awareness of how the art world has neglected African Americans. The works of artists such as Titus Kaphar, Sanford Biggers, Carrie Mae Weems, Noah Purifoy, act as portals into the world that these people have shaped with their art. By reshaping a past world in which racism and oppression ran rampant, these artists effectively call for social justice and inclusive education in the present.
As Professor Robertson lectured about communism, he emphasized how the ideology of communism swept across the globe and created an world interconnected world that surpassed the varying existing governments. As communism adapted to the various needs of the working class across nations, it appealed to all sorts of oppressed people groups. He looked through the lens of the lives of different communists that represent these groups to clarify the appeal and spread of communism.
While lecturing to us about communist China, Professor Wasserstrom greatly emphasized the way that China's history connects to our present world. He made many connections across different news stories and medias to show how interconnected all worldbuilding is, particularly pointing to the connection to Chinese worldbuilding. He also connected us to the stories we read of the Monkey King and Boxers Rebellion, which enhanced his teaching of Chinese schools of thought.
