Currently, I'm really drawn to Nirvana's In Utero album. I think the world of rock music as it relates to social change and human rights is very important and worth talking about. The way Nirvana, and Kurt Cobain specifically, has gone against the grain and spoken out consistently and passionately about equality and justice whilst other rock musicians perpetuated problematic ideologies proves a method of analyzing and shaping the world. They not only speak out about it, but their efforts to shape the world for the better is so evident in their music.
This week we'll be checking on secondary sources for our research, and I'll make a more solidified decision on what direction I want to go. I've also been considering Woman in Black and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. But, I've been moving in the direction of In Utero, because I am excited about analyzing music, and because I think the world it engages with is more tangible and important than that of the other two. I've already requested a book on Nirvana from the library that I think will greatly benefit my research, and based on minimal search, I feel confident about the resources available to assist me with the In Utero analysis.
