SABER West 2022

Cancelled

University of California Irvine

Supporting Equitable Transitions in STEM Education

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the University of California Irvine's shift to remote instruction at the beginning of the academic term, we are unfortunately forced to cancel the conference. We hope to see you all in 2023!

The sixth annual SABER West conference will be held face to face on January 15-16, 2022 with pre-conference workshops on January 14, 2022.

The goals of the meeting are to:

  1. Increase interactions among STEM educators and education researchers.

  2. Foster collaborations between 2 year and 4 year institutions.

  3. Provide professional development to conduct education research and implement evidence-based teaching practices.

  4. Create an inclusive conference space that fosters the growth of attendees and presenters as STEM educators and education researchers.

Our Plenary Speaker

Nancy Acevedo-Gill, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, College of Education, Graduate Studies
CSU San Bernardino

I am an interdisciplinary scholar and research the experiences of Latina/o/x students and Students of Color as they navigate transitions along the higher education pipeline. I use critical race and Chicana feminist theories to examine educational (in)equities and develop additive policies and practices.

Meeting organizers:

Brian Sato, UC Irvine (bsato@uci.edu)

Adrienne Williams, UC Irvine (adriw@uci.edu)

Stanley Lo, UC San Diego

Gwen Shlichta, Edmonds College

Lauren Snow, UC Irvine

Mike Wilton, UC Santa Barbara

SABER West 2022 will be following the COVID-19 guidelines established by the University of California Irvine which currently allows for the hosting of external events (masks are required in indoor spaces and all UCI affiliates are required to be fully vaccinated). If this changes in the future, we will adjust accordingly. If the campus restricts access before November 29th, we aim to shift the meeting to a remote event and adjust registration costs accordingly. If the campus policy is modified after the 29th, we likely will be required to cancel the conference due to the lack of time for the organizing committee to adapt to this new format.
