Fieldwork and Placement Overview
Observations and Supervisors
Each UCI candidate is assigned a UCI Supervisor. Supervisors are UCI faculty and experienced educators, most with administrative experience. They play a vital role in supporting our candidates and their mentor teachers. They will formally observe their assigned candidates a minimum of 4 times each quarter (3 in-person observations + 1 recorded observation).
Student teachers must submit a complete UCI Lesson Plan 48 hours in advance to their Supervisors before each lesson observation. After each observation the candidate conferences with the Supervisor and Mentor Teacher (if the mentor is available). Supervisors maintain communication with the candidate, Mentor Teacher, and the Coordinator about candidate progress.
