Cynthia: I never realized how important different study spaces were until I started college. Sure, I studied at home, but studying for high school content is a completely different experience. It’s an understanding you gain after you’ve spent some time away from your high school mindset. As a “moody” studier, I like to frequently switch study spaces if I find that one isn’t working for me. I think it’s important to be in an environment where you’re comfortable. One of my personal favorite spots is the Engineering Patio. You’ll probably find me there on a daily basis.
Britanny: I would strongly recommend working in a room with a table because you feel more productive than on a bed or any other space. I think it’s important to know how you study (alone, groups, etc.) and when you study best because studying is about quality, not just staring at a book for a very long time. Also, know that studying with friends is okay, but study with people you know will actually do their work and not just distract you.
Khanh: I will add to what Cynthia and Britanny mentioned above. Studying is obviously important. However, there is a quality over quantity in the information that you retain. Study, but remember to take a break. Our attention span can only last so long. If you can’t focus for a long time like me, take 20-30 minutes to study, then 5-10 minutes break. Productivity is crucial over you sitting there for possibly hours and only retaining 5% you study.
Michelle: Studying in college should be done every day in sections, not crammed before the midterm of finals. I studied in combination with friends in a study group, went to TA study sessions, and studied on my own, because reviewing the material with multiple different people was helpful to my learning. The important thing is to take breaks!
Vy: Recapping what everyone has said above, find good study spaces (experiment different places where you can focus and do work), find good study buddies (those who motivate you to work, not distract you from working), and TAKE BREAKS (remember that your health is the topmost priority!!)
