Mario Torero created the 24th anniversary celebration poster. In 1994 Chicano Park Day was dedicated to Cesar Chavez, a hero in the eyes of Mexican Americans. Many Mexican immigrants came to this country as braceros working on the fields without any fair wages or treatment, something Cesar Chavez advocated for and his lifelong struggle created change and many victories for the farm workers. Cesar Chavez died on April 23rd 1993 only days from the previous year Chicano Park Day celebration.
This Union Tribune article is about San Diego students writing poetry, but the sample poem printed in the article is a 15-year old young man's experience with Chicano Park. The student expresses the feeling of "La Raza" presence in the park.
