The Chicano Park Day Poster from 1991 was created by Chicana artist Elizabeth Ruiz. It encompasses the strength and preservation in Chicano communities. This poster represents the idea of being a “third space”, which symbolizes the the importance of knowing ones culture. "Barrio Peace" in emphasized in the text, referring to the issues of gang violence in the 1980s and 1990s. Because of this, Chicano people were ostracized and generalized under violent stereotypes. Chicanos however were able to persevere through these hardships and find their own identities.
This Voz Fronteriza article is about the addition of new murals in Chicano Park. Specifically, there was a call for a mural that emphasized education. El Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (M.E.Ch.A.) headed the mural.
