3.3 Cite sources to demonstrate the underlying values and practices of a particular citation system.
This course criteria means citing sources and showing a particular citation system. In writing Project 3, I wrote an article about potential challenges and solutions for multilingual scholars in the academic community. In this writing project, I learned how to cite sources by using APA- in-text citations. For instance, in the article, I cited five sources from different academic articles such as Canagarajah, Hyland, and Han's papers. In my article, I used parenthetical in-text citations to show monolingual ideology leads to a series of challenges for second-language scholars. Also, I created a references page after my article and reflected APA citation guidelines, which demonstrated my understanding of academic writing standards and expectations.
3.1 Evaluate utility of source materials given a writer’s particular purposes.
This course criteria means to evaluate different source materials. This is important in academics because we should read many articles in order to find sources to support our ideas in academic writing. In writing project 3, I first tried to review all articles from course readings. Then, I created a comprehensive list of themes from each article to organize the content. After completing this, I evaluated the articles to check if the sources were relevant, credible, and suitable to support my ideas and strengthen the arguments in my writing. This process helped me enhance my ability to engage with source materials, ensuring that my arguments was well-supported and aligned with the expectations of academic writing standards.
