1.2 Understand the demands of particular writing tasks
This course criteria refer to understanding the expectations or requirements of assignments in university. I successfully meet this course criteria because I can understand and write articles based on the specific demands of particular writing tasks. For example, the writing task included a list of requirements, such as citing all references clearly(quotes, paraphrases, summary), and synthesizing the different references in the discussion. (goes beyond summary) Through writing project 2, I learned what synthesis writing requires. After learning this skill, I became more confident in writing academic articles such as the assignment in writing project 3.
3.2 Contextualize source material within a conversation.
Contextualizing source material within a conversation means analyzing and summarizing different sources in your own voice, not just copying the original sources into academic writings. I can meet this course criteria by summarizing multiple sources in my own words and combining them with my arguments in Writing Projects WP (2) Synthesis Paragraphs. For instance, this writing project requires students to choose an academic journal's author guideline and analyze it using McKinley and Rose's article. As a result, in this writing project, I needed to summarize at least two sources. Firstly, I tried to reread Mckinley and Rose's article and the author's guidelines, taking some detailed notes to identify relevant information. After gathering the sources, I summarized the key points from each paragraph and rewrote them in my own words to align with my arrangements. Overall, this approach helped me effectively integrate source material into my analysis.
