Dear students, professors, and partner universities, it is with great pleasure that we invite you to present at the Second Student Farm Global Symposium at University of California, Davis!
Hello! Salut! नमस्ते! Oi! வணக்கம்! ¡Hola! 你好! ! مرحبا Gutentag! こんにちは! Jambo! Bonjour!
The UN Sustainable Development Goals challenge us all to make this world a better place. These goals require open-mindedness, interdisciplinary, systems-thinking and the ability to test and share ideas in real-world settings. They demand the ability to communicate across cultures, empathize, and move in the spirit of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Student farms around the world provide ideal settings to create, incubate, explore, and share novel ideas that can contribute to many of these sustainable development goals. In addition, through our first symposium we’ve experienced that practices demonstrated on student farms can be applied to both rural and urban settings, provide opportunities for people to acquire knowledge to grow their own food at home or learn how to reduce waste. In our second edition, we hope again to provide an opportunity for students at student farms to connect, learn from each other and demonstrate, and share examples of hope from around the world.
With the objective of building an international network between students and student farms focused on learning and sharing our enthusiasm for sustainable agriculture and just food systems, the 2nd Annual Student Farm Global Symposium will occur remotely on 14 May 2022. Our aim is to promote values of sustainable agriculture amid students across the globe as a way to communally inspire, create, and share ecological and socially conscious relationships with the land and the food we grow.
We invite students at your student farm to submit proposals for 5 min. presentations about something your student farm is doing that you want to share with the world or a 30 minute knowledge and skill building workshop where you can teach other student farms something you think is important. Presentations should be in English, but we hope to have translators on hand. Given this year’s theme, we encourage proposals on how your student farm connects with the land. We encourage you to share from any and all disciplines, including but not limited to science, music, food, cultural and indigenous knowledge, while promoting organic and ecological practices, and centering the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Presentations can take the form of a PowerPoint, music, art, dance, or video.
This will be an informal and celebratory symposium! We hope that your team will be interested in sharing your projects with other student farms around the world! We have so much to learn from each other.
Join us to hear presentations and workshops from students at EARTH University from Costa Rica, Newcastle University from United Kingdom, UM6P from Morocco, Tokyo University of Arts from Japan, University of California, Davis, USA and more.

Good Day. Hello everyone,
My name is Lillian Huyana Hall. I am a young Miwok Woman from the Ione Band of Miwok Indians Tribe, located in Ione, California. I am currently residing in Bellingham, Washington to pursue higher education at Northwest Indian College. I am in my second year, my major is Tribal Government and Business Management while concentrating in Early Childhood Education. I am looking forward to being the Keynote speaker at this event. Tangi kmau.
Since starting at Northwest Indian College I have been working with others to revive the college gardens. In addition, from the ages of 15-18, I traveled around North America working with various native organizations such as the Intertribal Agricultural Council to learn with and inspire youth and communities to reconnect with their traditional food ways, while always remembering to give back and never take more than what is needed.
We are excited to see all the presentations and workshops!
Thank you to our sponsors!
