Second Form Literature Unit Plan
This 5-credit sophomore literature course, conducted in 70-minute (Double Period) sessions, provide students with a dynamic and innovative approach to exploring literature. Core texts include Beka Lamb by Zee Edgell, The Alchemy of Words, The Salt Pickers by Zoila Ellis, and the summer reading selection Homeless Bird.
The curriculum focuses on understanding literary elements, writing styles, vocabulary enhancement, and literary analysis, with an emphasis on independent and group study. Students will develop critical thinking and analytical skills through the study of diverse texts, including works by Belizean authors, enriching their cultural perspectives.
By the end of the course, students will be able to identify key literary elements, discuss writing styles, engage in thoughtful discussions, and apply analytical skills to various texts. Participation, punctuality, respect for diverse viewpoints, and active engagement are required for a successful learning experience.
Third Form English Unit Plan
This third-year secondary school course, held in five 70-minute sessions per cycle, uses A Complete Writing and Grammar Course for Juniors and Seniors and English A for CSEC with Study Guide & Exercises as core texts.
The course integrates previously learned grammatical concepts, focusing on enhancing students' reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills, along with effective study habits. Students will strengthen their communication skills by presenting factual information orally and in writing, preparing them for English A SBA requirements.
Through the study of grammar, usage, paragraph structure, and summary writing, students will practice critical thinking and hone their skills in journal writing. Reading and analyzing narratives, short stories, poetry, novels, and drama are key elements, developing students' comprehension and analytical abilities.
