Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
What is CPR?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions and artificial ventilation to maintain circulation and breathing in a person whose heart has stopped or who is not breathing properly. It is a critical life-saving technique used to stabilize someone in cardiac arrest until professional medical help arrives.
Why is it important for teachers to learn CPR?
It is crucial for teachers to learn CPR because they are often in charge of the safety and well-being of students. In the event of a medical emergency, such as sudden cardiac arrest (heart attack), seizures, strokes, a teacher trained in CPR can immediately provide life-saving assistance, potentially saving a student’s life before emergency responders arrive. Having CPR skills can make a significant difference in critical situations where every second counts.
I have successfully completed two CPR training sessions. The first session took place on August 9, 2024, at the University of Belize, and the second session was held on August 16, 2024, at Saint Catherine Academy. Both sessions provided me with valuable hands-on experience and reinforced my ability to perform CPR effectively in emergency situations.
I believe that knowing this information will enhance my ability to respond swiftly and effectively in emergency situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of my students and those around me.
