Continuity clinics are designed to allow Pediatric Infectious Diseases trainees increased exposure to ambulatory patients in a longitudinal clinic, allowing them to gain more expertise in the long-term follow up and management of ID patients.
Trainees can schedule 2-3 blocks of electives during their 1st & 2nd year of training. Trainees can utilize these flexible time slots to tailor the training to their career goals. The electives must have prior approval by the program director to ensure their educational value.
Possible electives include: STD clinic, TB clinic, Allergy and/or immunology clinic (may include vaccine clinic), Community-based infectious diseases, Dermatology, Global health, Rheumatology clinic, Transplantation medicine and Tropical and travel medicine.
This rotation will encompass 2-4 blocks over two years. During this time, the trainee will be expected to complete a scholarly project with an appropriate academic mentor. Basic science research is possible, but given the limited time it is not advised unless the trainee has previous relevant training or is planning to extend their training to a third year in order to expand their scholarly experience..
The program will provide the trainee with appropriate resources, protected time, and supervision to complete/participate in a scholarly research, quality assurance, or educational project.
