Objectives:
To be able to identify common characteristics and examples of significant adverse events in health service delivery.
To understand the concepts behind Significant Event Analysis (SAE) and how such methodology can be used to improve the care of our patients.
To understand the differences between quality assurance and quality improvement and the unique methodologies that apply to each.
To be able to articulate a quality or patient safety concern and identify appropriate resources or responsible leaders to escalate these concerns to.
To be able to design/execute a quality improvement project and formulate recommendations using SMART methodology.
To help promote a just culture around patient safety and adverse event reporting and integrate these values into personal practice reflection, self-assessment and continuous improvement.
