All course registrations/course changes must be completed by the student using the Bear Tracks registration system and must be completed by the end of the second full week of classes.
All courses, except those specifically indicated on Bear Tracks, are restricted to students in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation. Many courses have a limited enrollment possibility and are permanently restricted to our degree students.
The Class roster of your course is available to you on Bear Tracks and will indicate all students who are registered in the course. NOTE: The class list can change up to a few days past the Add/Drop Deadline for each term (typically the 3rd Friday of the month). Please refer to the "Major Dates and Deadlines" section of the Academic Schedule provided within the UofA Calendar specific to the academic year.
Students who have been attending a KSR class but who are not on the class roster must report to the KSR Student Services Office to investigate the problem. Do not return examinations or assignments to students in this category until you have been advised that the problem has been resolved with approval of a late addition of the course. This also applies to students who are attending the wrong section of a course with multiple sections, as you cannot submit a grade for a student in a section other than the one they are enrolled in on Bear Tracks.
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Instructors do not have the authority to register students in a class. Please refer ALL inquiries regarding course restrictions, and/or access to your course (regardless of whether at capacity or not) to KSR Academic Programs Coordinator, Shenin Mehnaj (ksracprg@ualberta.ca).
DO NOT suggest to students that you are willing to accommodate any registration requests.

The CANCOPY guidelines outline what you may copy under the Copyright Act of Canada. If you have concerns about whether or not you can use the material you are considering using and/or have adequate copyright permission for copying the publication, please contact the Assistant Dean, Academic Programs.

Prepare reading lists. Readings or other course materials may be uploaded to your course through eClass and are recommended to be included within the schedule of the course within the course syllabus. The University Libraries also provide a Reading List Service whereby instructors submit their reading lists and are provided with persistent urls that can be incorporated into the course eClass page and/or schedule of the course within the course syllabus.
What is eClass? You can connect to eClass from most UAlberta webpages at the top of each page. See eClass.

Based on approval at GFC on February 27, 2023, effective July 1, 2023, students will provide their perspectives on their experiences of teaching using new survey questions. The Student Perspectives of Teaching (SPOT) survey now consists of six sections with three questions in each section, for a total of 18 questions. To learn more about this change, please visit and share this page.
These survey questions are changing to meet the Framework for Effective Teaching requirement in the Teaching, Learning and Evaluation policy, as one way to mitigate bias. The Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) developed the Framework to help instructors better their teaching practice through methods of developing, documenting, and reflecting on their teaching. The new questions reflect on course design and instructional practices, two components of the Framework for Effective Teaching.
Beginning with Fall 2023 courses, instructors are required to provide students 15 minutes of class time to complete their SPOT survey. This communicates the importance of the activity to students and has shown to be an effective way to encourage participation.
Survey results will be used in the Faculty Evaluation Committee (FEC) processes in ways that are consistent with the collective agreement and Faculty standards, documents and procedures. Results from the updated SPOT survey evaluating courses from July 1, 2023, to July 1, 2024, will be used in the FEC process, assessing the 2023-24 year.
This is a change away from the USRI system and survey.
Please review the new SPOT survey’s core purposes of informing constructive change in instruction and curriculum and as one facet in the evaluation of teaching, as is stated in the UAPPOL Policy.
The Manager, Academic Programs (Nicole Lazorek) books all classrooms and/or activity spaces for regularly-scheduled courses, well in advance of the start of classes.
If you find as an instructor that you need to book an additional room or activity space (a “casual” booking; something other than what has been assigned to the course and indicated in Beartracks), please contact: bookings@ualberta.ca.
You will be asked to provide the date, time, number of people to be accommodated, purpose of the booking, and any other relevant details. Because of the heavy use of Faculty of KSR and CCR facilities, requests beyond the regular academic schedule may be difficult to accommodate.
