The lab developed a unique platform of purified polymerases and polymerase complexes representing families of viruses that are known as important human pathogens. Reverse transcriptases of retorviruses, DNA polymerases of herpesviruses, and RNA-dependent RNA polymerases of several RNA viruses with high epidemic potential: coronaviruses, influenza viruses, flaviviruses, picornaviruses, filoviruses, paramyxoviruses and arenaviruses. This platform enables the rapid discovery of polymerase inhibitors, an assessment of their spectrum of activities and elucidation of mechanisms of action and drug resistance. The overall approach has contributed to a rapid response in the pandemic.
