A fellow, or advanced fellow, is defined is a post-MD trainee, registered with the Postgraduate Medical Education Office (PGME) and is pursuing supervised clinical and/or clinical research training. Fellowships are an opportunity to gain specialized expertise, not normally acquired during residency training, which must be fully completed prior to commencing in an advanced fellowship program at the University of Alberta.
Fellowship training does not fulfill certification eligibility requirements of existing residency programs recognized by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
