Winter 2026
Undergraduate Award

The Faculty of Education Winter 2026 Undergraduate Research Award is currently accepting applications until Tuesday, December 2nd.

This Award is intended to cultivate and support research partnerships between undergraduate students and faculty members. The award provides undergraduate Faculty of Education students with the opportunity to receive $2,000 to cover approximately 17 weeks (or about 130 hours) of research-based activity over the Winter 2026 term. The project timelines are flexible, and may vary according to the schedules and commitments of both the academic supervisor and the student researcher. 

Benefits for students may include:

• Valuable introduction to research

• Preparation for work at the graduate level

• Gain research presentation experience (poster or conference presentation opportunities) 

• Enhancement of academic experience

• Certificate of Recognition at the end of Program

Eligible students must:

• be registered in the Faculty of Education for the Winter 2026 and Fall 2026 semesters

• have a current minimum 3.0 GPA for each course taken within the Faculty of Education

• be available and flexible with their time for the duration of the project

• be legally entitled to work on the University of Alberta campus

• be prepared to submit and present a poster display at the Fall 2026 Celebration event 

**Note: Students who will not be returning for Fall BEd courses OR are planning to transfer to another faculty are not eligible.

There are 6 awards available. This award is tenable only once in an undergraduate student’s career. Please note: Past Roger S. Smith Undergraduate Student Research Award and Fall Undergraduate Research Award recipients are eligible to apply.

Selection Criteria:

• Applicant’s knowledge of the particular research field

• Applicant’s ability to articulate ideas in a concise and intelligent manner

• The relevance of the project to the applicant’s program

• Applicant’s relevant experience

• Applicant's grade point average

Deadlines:

• Applications must be received by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, December 2nd.

• Applicants will be notified of their application status via email in December
