Alternative Delivery
Alternative Delivery vs Distance Education
The Office of the Registrar indicates that for courses normally delivered in the traditional face-to-face manner, special off campus sections are identified as "Distance Education" if there are no additional approved costs associated with the delivery of the section. If additional costs have been approved for the delivery of a special section then these sections are identified as "Alternative Delivery". If courses are ONLY delivered online, they will be identified as "Distance Education", even though there may be higher than standard fees for taking these courses (e.g. distance courses in the MES program).
Setting up Alternative Delivery Courses in the Faculty of Education
Alternate delivery courses in which alternate-delivery fees are charged (fi 9) must first be approved by the Registrar's Advisory Committee on Fees (RACF).
Once approved, the department can schedule a section and request that the section be offered with a fee index of 9. This request is made to Examinations and Timetabling which is the only unit that can make the change.
Before the end of each fiscal year (usually), Accounts Payable will contact the department to verify the amount to be transferred and where it should be transferred.
The alternative fee (fi 9) is charged at 1 1/2 times the standard charge. The department receives 75% of this surcharge and 25% is transferred to the University's overhead account.
