The GBT no longer supports a healthy or beautiful native habitat.
We have been charged with designing a plan to optimize expenditures to achieve the greatest level of ecological improvement and beautification of the Winnetka portion of the GBT.
Our motivation for this project is that the GBT is an important aspect of the community of the North Shore and is a unifying attraction for these communities.
"Unless you're looking for it, you won't realize the Green Bay Trail is there" - Steve Huels (Project Partner)
To provide the community of Winnetka, IL with a plan for a trail that is more beautiful, interactive, and accessible, by improving the health of the Green Bay trail both physically and aesthetically (Appendix A).
Our Partners for the GBT Beautification project are the Friends of the GBT (FGBT) who plan to have the GBT restorations included in the 2040 Winnetka Comprehensive Plan. Over the course of the quarter, the team worked in close correspondence with Mr. Steve Huels, representing Friends of the Green Bay Trail, Mr. Craig Witty, Winnetka resident and fellow representative of Friends of Green Bay Trail, and Prof. C.H. Dowding, representing Winnetka Environmental and Forestry Commission. Meetings were conducted on a biweekly basis.
Stakeholders in this project are those who use the GBT, Friends of the GBT (FGBT), the Village Council of Winnetka, the Environmental and Forestry Commission of Winnetka, the Winnetka Park District and Authors of the 2040 Winnetka Comprehensive Plan.
