Differentiated Instruction Tips
English Language Learners (ELL)
- Provide materials in Google Doc format for easy translation of entire documents. You may want to provide materials in print, and in both English and their native language depending on your ELL students English proficiency.
- Have students use Google Translate to understand new words & definitions if necessary.
- Allow ELL students to participate in mixed-ability pairs/groups. High performing students often enjoy helping students who have weaker language skills.
Students with Reading Difficulties
- Provide one on one attention. Individual instruction goes a long way and there is ample opportunity to do so during this project.
- Include "Do Now" and "Exit Ticket" activities at the beginning and end of class as you feel it is necessary. There are formative assessments built into the project, however, including more formative assessment can help reinforce concepts and keep students focused on the daily tasks.
