- Project Name: Impact of Imperialism in China
- Teacher: Mr. Ryan Colley
- Grade Level: 9th Grade
- Content Area: Social Studies (Global Studies/World Cultures)
- Duration: 3 weeks (with "block" scheduling)
This project aims to help students identify the effects of imperialism on Chinese history and culture. Students will investigate major historical events and cultural changes that happened in China from the mid-19th century to present day. As students become familiar with the impact of anti-imperialist sentiment in China, they will act as a "freelance" journalist and record their findings on a blog or vlog website of their choosing. Thus, the culminating activity for this project gives students a choice to work with two forms of media which are growing in popularity.
This project adheres to the "Gold Standard" Project-Based Learning (PBL) criteria set forth by the Buck Institute for Education.
