Ayushi ordered the go-kart seat last week and delivered it today. The seat was positioned on the PVC frame at the pre-determined mounting location. Due to the compact scale of the go-kart, a smaller seat was intentionally selected to maintain proportionality and spatial efficiency within the overall design.
Upon inspection, two primary design constraints were identified. First, the seat is manufactured with a fixed tilt angle, preventing it from sitting flush against the perpendicular PVC. Second, the seat includes four mounting holes, whereas the original frame design only accounted for two attachment points.
To address these issues, the team initiated a brainstorming phase to explore viable mounting solutions. The selected approach involves installing a Y-joint at the center of the PVC framework to provide additional structural support and correct the seatโs inclination. This modification allows the seat to remain upright, improving comfort and user stability.
This stage represents the Develop Solutions phase of the engineering design process, as multiple concepts were evaluated to determine an effective method for securely mounting the seat to the PVC frame.
A 3D-printed drilling guide was designed to assist with accurately drilling through the PVC pipes. This custom tool ensures proper alignment and consistency when creating mounting holes, reducing the likelihood of misalignment and improving overall assembly precision. By stabilizing the drill bit during operation, the guide also enhances safety and efficiency throughout the fabrication process.
This step corresponds to the Develop Solutions phase of the engineering design process, as multiple approaches were evaluated to support the larger objective of improving structural accuracy and reliability within the go-kart assembly.
The battery was inspected to assess its condition and basic functionality within the system. This included examining the terminals, wiring connections, and overall physical integrity to ensure it was suitable for use. The inspection helped verify that the battery could safely provide power prior to integration.
