Safe Space Statement
Kawameeh Library Safe Space Statement
This is a safe space for our school community to explore, learn, discover, and find a good book. We acknowledge that our personal experiences, values, and opinions differ. Therefore, we honor the following ground rules while in the library:
We agree that everyone in this space has equal worth and deserves respect.
We agree to check our personal biases and refrain from making judgments about others.
We agree to respect each other as thinking and feeling human beings. We apologize and forgive as needed, and learn from our mistakes.
We agree to help keep this the safe, welcoming space we would all like it to be.
Kawameeh Library Community Agreements
Share the air (be aware of how much you are talking versus listening or how much you are listening versus talking)
Engage in curiosity-driven research and conversations (remember the goal is for you to go home each day just a little bit smarter and wiser than when you arrived)
Listen with compassion (everyone’s experiences are different and as valuable as your own)
Don’t judge a book before you try it (you may be surprised to find you like new genres & styles)
Don’t judge a person by the book they read (everyone is entitled to their own enjoyment)
READ!!! (after all, this is a LIBRARY!!!)
