Essay Questions
1. If selected as a Buck Fellow, what would you hope for from your relationship with a mentor? If you have had other mentors in your life, what have you gained from your relationships with them?
2. Buck Fellows have access during high school to academic/career guidance and funding for college-bound resources and summer experiences. How do you plan on using these resources? Be as specific as possible.
3. Tell us about a time when you went outside of your comfort zone and how you navigated that experience. What did you learn?
4.What is an extracurricular or community activity in which you have played a major role? Feel free to discuss any influential factors you faced and how this experience has affected or shaped you.
5. What are your goals for your college education and your career? And how have these goals been impacted by your parent(s)/guardian(s) or other family members?
ELIGIBILITY
Live or attend school in Contra Costa, Napa, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, or Yolo County.
Be a high school sophomore.
Submit a completed application, along with your transcript and two letters of recommendation by the application deadline.
You can demonstrate:
A record of academic success and a desire for academic and intellectual challenges.
Evidence of leadership, enterprise, and personal initiative.
A commitment to succeed and improve your community.
Personal resiliency, including the capacity to overcome adversity.

You would benefit from up to $5,000 in funding to cover costs associated with:
Preparing and taking AP tests and the SAT
Visiting your top colleges
Attending summer programs
Applying to college
Buying a new computer for college
and more.
