By 2023, the School Library Team will update the library space by:
Adding a "circulation type" designation to all materials in the library so that we can run reports based on our library's different categories more readily (Easy Nonfiction, Easy Graphic Novels, Easy Fction, Nonfiction, Graphic Novles, Fiction, Chapter Books, etc)
Weeding the upper grade Nonfiction collection to improve its currency and appeal to students
Continuing to create new book bins with books containing high-interest characters and topics for young readers
Advocating for and/or acquiring funds for smaller tables for young students to use when participating in library reading and makerspace activities
Summary
Part of the role of the library team is to analyze the ways in which students and staff utilize the library's space and services, and to note any barriers that prevent library patrons from finding what they need. The library's space and collection of resources is expected to be in need of continual updating in order to meet the ever-chaning information needs of the students and school community. The goals listed above are updates we identified over the course of the last year as the projects that should take the highest priority.
About the library space: The library has a designated classroom space with tables, chairs and a smartboard, as well as a story-time area for younger students. Additionally, the library offers a space that has comfortable furniture and flexible, comfortable seating options for independent and group work. Since the library serves students in grades 4K-8, the collection is broken into age-appropriate collections of books, which are segregated to their own spaces within the library, allowing students to easily identify which collections are appropriate for their grade level.
