Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Action Item:

By 2026, the Lakewood School Library Team will build upon our previously-developed Scope and Sequence for library instruction. We will analyze our practices to identify gaps between our current practices and the AASL & ISTE Standards (described below). We will develop at least 3 new lessons, programs, and/or collaborations to address these gaps and ensure, at the very least, that each category of standards is being addressed by our work. Gaps and ongoing adjustments are to be expected due to the adaptive and quickly-changing nature of the information field.

2022-2023 Scope and Sequence

Possible lessons, programs, and/or collaborations:

Library Learning Standards

The role of a librarian includes the teaching of information literacy skills as well as technology skills. The personnel of the Lakewood School Library refer to the following two professional organizations' standards when developing instructional programming. Instructional programming includes curriculum for library specials classes as well as curricular collaborations with teachers.

AASL Standards Framework for Learners - The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) has created a framework for students to Think, Create, Share, and Grow in the school library as they learn to harness curiosity, model responsibility, inspire exploration, promote creativity, and deepen understanding.

ISTE Standards for Students - The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) is the foremost organization in teaching technology in the classroom and has come up with 7 key standards to empower students to become future ready, lifelong learners.
