Collaborative Leadership

Action Item:

By 2026, the School Library Team will  collaborate with classroom teachers to make a plan for purchasing library resouces that support the updated curriculum (across grade levels and content areas, including CKLA). This plan will adhere to the library's collection development procedures and policies, including our inability to purchase duplicate/multiple copies of books used for curricular purposes.

Summary

One of the roles of the school library is to support students and teachers in accessing reading materials that support curriculum. While the Common School Fund purchasing guidelines do not allow for libraries to purchase class sets of books for students (as this is a curricular expense), it is expected that libraries provide a variety of reading materials that classrooms can use to supplement curricular materials for the purpose of providing further information and broader perspectives. Since Lakewood School has recently updated at least some of its curriculum (Amplify and CKLA), the library staff will analyze the resource/recommended reading lists that accompany these new curricular materials to decide what new materials would be a good fit in our library, and in alignment with library and school learning goals/standards.
