Theatre

The THEATRE PERFORMANCE & TECHNICAL THEATRE tracks offer students a variety of courses, building strong foundations in performance, visual design, college and/or career preparation and portfolio development.

Theatre Performance

The Theatre program is an award-winning, highly recognized program in Arizona that wants to provide students with performance skills in Ensemble Work, Improvisation, Movement, Mime, Voice, Storytelling, Character Work, Play Analysis, Site Theatre, Invisible Theatre, Makeup design, Troupe Work, Theatre Through Literacy, Theatre History, Playwriting, Directing, Film projects and Special Projects for Community Outreach.

Technical Theatre

The Technical Theatre track is aligned with the Arizona Career & Technical Education (CTE) state standards in order to provide a well-rounded curriculum in Scenery, Properties, Rigging, Lighting, Sound, Costumes, Makeup, Stage Management, Stage Jobs/Careers and Marketable Workplace Skills.

Dr. Angela R. Rollins received her B.A. in Theatre, her M.Ed. and M.A.C. in Secondary Education-Theatre Education, and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction-Curriculum Studies from Arizona State University (ASU). Her Dissertation; The Theatrical Ties that Bind: A Post-Structural Analysis of Theatre Education Programs, was a finalist for dissertation of the year for ABER. She taught at Gilbert High School for ten years as the Theatre Director and has been with Marcos de Niza High School for the past two years. Additionally, she is a Faculty Associate for the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at ASU teaching courses in Developmental Psychology. She serves on the Arts-Based Educational Research (ABER) Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and serves on the Arizona Thespian Board as the Director for the Central Region and on the Executive Board. She was a performer in the valley and overseas for the past 20 years, and her writing on Theatre Education can be viewed in Youth Theatre Journal, Sage and Scholars Press.
