School Skills

Welcome to School Skills!

This section of the website will provide you with tools to work on skills needed for success with school activities.

What are School Skills?

School Skills are those skills you need to do well in class. The skills addressed here include:

• In-Hand Manipulation Skills (Such as the ability to use your pencil, eraser, handle small objects or otherwise use all the small muscles of the hand together appropriately).

• Handwriting

• Cutting Skills (Using Scissors)

• Typing

• School Readiness (early school skills such as holding a pencil, scribbling, tracing, drawing a person)

• Homework Success

INSTRUCTIONS:

To find out more information on these topics, go to the Occupational Therapy tab at the top of the page. Hover over it until a drop down bar appears. You will be able to choose from three areas: Self-Care, School Skills and OT Distance Learning Handouts. Click on the small arrow to the left of the School Skills area. Another drop down bar will appear with School Skills topics. Click on the one you are interested in and that will take you to the topic you have chosen.
