To My Students:

Dear Students,

I am a teacher because I LOVED school. I had so much fun learning about the world and how things work. I want to show you all why learning is important and how exciting it can be. I want to share my passions with you. I want to show you that you are good at math. You are good at reading. I want to show you that you DO have strengths and you will have weaknesses. I want to teach you to use your strengths to help others and approach your weaknesses humbly but with resilience. I want to help you become the best you that you can be. You should be confident and comfortable in my room because you are amazing, exactly as you are. I truly believe that you are awesome and by the end of the year, I will make sure you know it.

I promise to help each of you to the best of my abilities. I promise to care for each of you. I promise to be understanding when you are having a hard day. I promise to encourage you each day with compassion and empathy. I know that some days will be a struggle for you and sometimes it will be a struggle for me. I will help you through it, and some days, I will need your smiling faces to help me.

As a class, we will work together to solve problems and comfort one another in times of need. We will work together to make sure everyone succeeds. We will work together to make sure each of us reaches our full potential. We will work together to let each other be happy exactly as they are. Together, we will accomplish more than we ever thought was imaginable. Prepare yourselves for the best year yet! We are going to reach our goals and become our best selves. I believe in you, and you will believe in yourself. In my class, we are a team, and we are a family.

Throughout the year, I want you to revisit this letter when you are having a hard day or when you notice a classmate or a teacher having a hard day. Remind yourself and others that we are in this together and that we have the strength to fight through anything life throws at us. I believe in you. Believe in yourself, and let’s have a great year.

Love,

Your number one fan,

Mrs. Butcher
