Grading Policy

Parents have access to the grade book through PowerSchool where grades and missing work can be found. Families can set notifications for new assignments being entered. Please utilize this app to keep track of your child more closely.
Grades will be specifically matched to standards. Grades for tests and assignments will be recorded, but grades will be based on the proficiency of each standard and averaged out to a final grade. This allows me, you, and our students to see exactly where the struggle is. It switches the mindset from points to concepts learned. I am excited to evaluate this way again this year. It will allow all of us a better understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of each child.

Absences and Missing/Late Work

When a student is absent, I expect work to me completed with the number of days missing plus 1 extra day when they return. Example: If a student misses 2 days, they will have the next 3 days to complete their work. Missing and late work will be recorded in the gradebook as an F until completed. Because of standards based grading, only missing assessments will impact a student's grade. Other missing work impacts their ability to succeed on the assessments.

Behavior Policy

I will use ClassDoJo and our Mini Economy to manage the classroom. My philosophy is that behavior is communication, so we will work to improve behavior by teaching expectations, using natural consequences, and teaching Brain Science.

Homework Policy

Our Nightly Expectations page can be found in each child's home folder as well as the drop down menu at the top of this page. Homework will rarely change. The only occasions when it might change is for missing work or studying for math tests.
