The TSC School Corporation adopted a new Reading Series last year, which is the i-Ready Reading Series. Unfortunately, both the Teacher and Student resources have not all arrived yet. We are still digging into the series to learn about all of its features and how to set up our instruction to best benefit our students. We want to have weekly Spelling Tests, develop Vocabulary Words for them to learn, focus on our Phonics instruction, Reading Comprehension, and Language skills. But this will take us a little time due to the current circumstances. As a second grade team we are and will continue working hard to develop our instruction with this totally new series. Over the next few weeks as our materials are delivered and we meet together, we will keep you updated on the new instructional processes we will be using and the student expectations we develop.
We have other Reading Materials we will be using while we dig into our New Series Adoption, so the students WILL BE DOING READING LESSONS AND ACTIVITES. I will also be giving all the students the "STAR TEST" to determine their Reading Levels very soon. The Star Test will enable me to set their AR Goal for the first nine weeks grading period. The student will have a daily homework assignment to read an AR Book 20 - 30 minutes each day (this can be a family bedtime activity). It can be a book they read individually, that you read together, or that you read to them. They will just need to take an AR Comprehension Test on it at school or at home(with no parent help). I will be sending LOTS of information about this home, when we get started. So for right now you can help them by listening to them read, reading with them, or reading to them with any books you want. Great readers develop from seeing and hearing other people read(Reading Role Models). So just by spending 20 - 30 minutes of your time being a Reading Role Model for your child, makes a HUGE difference in what kind of reader they will become!😊
