ABC’s of 3rd Grade
Mrs. Miller’s Class ~ Room 22
Absences- If your child is absent, they will have a make-up day for each day missed to submit their work. If an absence is pre-planned, please let me know. I can put together a packet of work that will be missed so the student does not fall too far behind.
Art- Mrs. Berkesch is our art teacher. Her grading and expectations are listed on her class website. Our class goes to art on Thursday.
Assignments- Homework will be assigned most days with the exception of Friday. Students may be asked to prepare for quizzes/tests over the weekend when necessary. A leveled reading book bag will be sent home each Monday and is to be returned Friday. In addition, math homework will be assigned and brought home even if it is finished. This will allow you to review the skill with your child and make corrections as needed. I do not grade most homework assignments. However, I do check them for understanding and completion.
Assignment Notebooks/Planners- Students will fill out their planners daily and have it checked by the teacher during the day. Parents are asked to sign the Planner after seeing the completed work, to assure that we have a strong home-school communication.
Attendance- Attend each day and arrive on time. The classroom door will open at 8:45 and class will begin at 8:55.
Birthdays- Your child is welcome to share a treat (can only be store bought) with the class on, or near, their birthday. If your child has a summer birthday, we can celebrate their ½ birthday.

Character Education- I feel that this is very important to each child, especially at this age. We will spend time each week on life skills such as: citizenship, friendship, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Please try to continue discussing these traits with your child at home.
Comfort in Class- During the warmer months, the air conditioning may be quite cool. A sweatshirt or sweater may make your child more comfortable. No outdoor jackets or hats may be worn in class. Flip-flops are not allowed at school due to safety concerns. Please send a water bottle to school each day with your child.

P.T.O.- I encourage you to join our PTO. They do many wonderful things for our school! Check out the school calendar for PTO meeting dates and times.
Recess- Please dress according to the weather for that time of year. It also helps to mark your child’s name on all outerwear. Hats, gloves, backpacks, sweatshirts, and coats are lost throughout the year and never claimed. There is a Lost & Found basket in the cafeteria. Please check it for lost items. When a child wears boots during cold or rainy weather, a pair of shoes may be brought to change into. Sneakers must be worn on P.E. days.
Snacks- Our lunch time is 11:45 which makes a long time between lunch and dinner. Students are welcome to bring a small, healthy snack each day. Dry snacks such as cereal, granola bars, vegetables, crackers, or fruit that is not messy are fine. To avoid attracting pests, no food will be kept in the room overnight. Students will also be asked not to trade or share snacks with classmates.
Snow delays/cancellations- Please check out the local news and local radio stations for updates on school delays and cancellations. You can also check the TSC webpage. It will be updated with delay/cancellation information as soon as it’s available. Sign up for the TSC2GO app for immediate notifications.
Suggestion- Third grade is a big change for many students. The work increases in difficulty and time needed to master the skills. Some children struggle with managing time for school, sports, play, television, and video games. Help your child limit the use of television and video games. It will be a way to ensure that time is used most effectively for work, sleep, and leisure.
Supplies - Supplies will be kept in the supply box in the desk. I will notify you if your child is in need of more supplies.
Specials Classes- (10:10-10:40)
Monday: Library
Tuesday: Technology
Wednesday: Music
Thursday: Art
Friday: PE
Technology – Mr. Collins is our Technology teacher. We see him on Tuesdays.

U- U are important! I believe that it takes teamwork between the teacher, parents, and student to make education successful!
Yearlong Calendar- The calendar is available in the office or on our school website.
Z-z-z-z-z’s- It is important that your child gets a good night’s sleep every night. This will greatly improve their chances for success!
