Homework Policy

I am aware of the many demands on a family after school hours. With this in mind, my philosophy has always been to fully utilize the time that your child spends with me during school hours so that he/she will not have to spend more than 20-30 minutes each evening working on schoolwork. Additional time may be needed to study for quizzes and tests.

In the event that your child IS bringing home more than 30 minutes of homework depending on his/her style and ability, it may be that your child is not using the time given in class wisely. Please let me know if a problem arises at home and I can discuss with you what I'm seeing in the classroom.

Independent and group projects are given throughout the year. Rubrics (a method used for scoring assignments) and details will be given in advance for any extended projects.

As a way of helping your child stay organized, your child will be given a “Homework Folder”. Your child should bring this folder home each day. Any assignments that are in this folder need to be completed and returned the following day. Your child will have the opportunity to purchase a Wyandotte Assignment Notebook for $5.00. It is HIGHLY recommended that you purchase this for your child.

Part of your child’s responsibility will be to record and take home ALL assignments even if they are finished. The homework will be collected the following school day. This gives you the opportunity to view your child’s work and to assist if needed. We will be spending much of the first month of school working on how to properly use the assignment notebook/homework folder. It is ultimately the responsibility of each student to record information from the white board in his/her daily assignment notebook – I will sign my initials once the assignments and homework have been correctly recorded and then packed.
