Special events in music:
KSO field trip: The fifth grades (and fourth grade at Norton) is seeing a concert that the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra is putting on! The theme is Everybody loves rhythm and is showing music and dance from different cultures and times (Andrews is seeing this March 4th and Norton is seeing this March 3rd)!
Andrews Music Concert: March 25th
Lower Elementary (Y5-2nd grade): 6-6:40 PM
Upper Elementary (3rd-5th grade): 7-7:40 PM
Norton Music Concert: March 26th
Lower Elementary (Y5-2nd grade): 6-6:40 PM
Upper Elementary (3rd-5th grade): 7-7:40 PM
What are we currently working on:
Y5-2:
We are learning and practicing songs that help us use our singing voice, create/stay with a steady beat, move to music, and how to play specific musical instruments. We are starting to focus on learning songs for our concert.
3: We are practicing musical skills while starting to focus on learning songs for our concert.
4th and 5th: We are learning about different songs, cultures, and musical terms. This is so that we can go to the KSO field trip and get the most educational benefit from it by practicing our listening or critical thinking skills. We are starting to focus on learning songs for our concert.
Fun/New things in music: We have colored spots that students sit on to create an organized and spaced out environment for music. This has given our students more space, allows more organization, and lets students have some ownership over their spot for class.
Class Highlight of the month:
Y5-2: We work on some kind of song fragment in class because these are echo or call and response songs. These are shorter parts that students are either echoing or singing responses from memory.
3-5: We are working on/reviewing solfege skills each day. This is a skill that we need to build if the students want to pursue certain types of music after elementary, helps with many general music skills, and is included in our Michigan music standards!
Shout out to our wildcats of the week and month! If your student has received this honor they will have a certificate to bring home! Congratulations to those wildcats! Thank you for being fantastic musicians and students!
