Here is an important fact: You do not need to attend any "Arts Academy" to follow your dreams of making music your future career! The staff here is very knowledgeable and accustomed to preparing our students for turning their passion for music in to their life-long vocation. HS South has seen a great number of students go on to successful careers in the music field. All the people below are examples of HS South music success stories. You may recognize a few of these names!
AJ Moreira, class of 2024, has auditioned for and beome a member of the DCI Jersey Surf corps for two straight years. He is now a music education major at Montclair University.
Jack Harjes, class of 2023, became the second instrumentalist in school district history to be selected for NAfME All Eastern Honors Band. This placed him among the top twenty-four high school clarinetists in the 11-state USA Northeastern Region! He is currently a music composition major at Hartford University's Hartt School of Music.
Tori Stendardo, class of 2022, is currently a trumpet/music education major at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.
Hayden Lovinfosse, class of 2020, became the first instrumentalist in school district history to be selected for NAfME All Eastern Honors Band. This placed him among the top twenty high school trombonists in the 11-state USA Northeastern Region! He is currenly a Masters trombone performance major at Northwestern University.
Julian Dippolito, Class of 2018, percussion performance Masters at Montclair University. He recently played on the 2022 Grammy-Winning Best Orcestral Performance with the New York Youth Symphony. He will be auditioning to finish his percussion studies at the Juliard School of Music in Manhattan.
Connor Decasse, class of 2019, is a French horn/music education major at Rowan University.
Zachary Doberentz, class of 2018, is a percussion/music education major at Montclair University.
Brianne Stendardo, class of 2015, is a professional music therapist working in Sea Girt.
Marissa Weatherby, class of 2010, is currently a primary music teacher in Egg Harbor Township.
Stephanie Chelston, class of 2006, is our current Marching Indians color guard advisor as well as choral music teacher at West Dover Elementary.
Ryan Carver, class of 2002, is a professional percussion artist with a thriving private lesson business; he travels all over America to play with coutnry and rock bands. He is also a marching percussion advisor for local marching bands.
Christopher Burbank, class of 1992, is an instrumental music teacher in several Toms River elementary schools. In the summer, he is also a successful professional marching band drill writer.
Christopher Test, class of 1990, is a former music director at Bishop Ahr/St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Edison, and the head director here at South since 2010! (It's wierd writing my own biography.)
Kyle Cummings, class of 1990, is professional keyboard player and private instructor based in Charlotte, NC. He is sought after all over the east coast for private and group/band gigs.
Stephen Ballina, class of 1988, is someone you're surely familiar with. He is the current band director at Intermediate South!
Jill Lovinfosse, class of 1986, is the former assistant and head band director of Toms River HS South. She is currently the band director at Toms River Intermediate East
