Informal Definition
An exclamatory sentence is a statement that expresses strong emotion. Typically, it is followed by an exclamation point at the end, and include interjections like “oh”, “wow”, or “ouch”.
Example: Don’t touch that!
Etymology
Exclamatory comes from the Latin noun exclāmātiōn, a stem of exclāmātiōa, “calling out". It originated around the mid 13th century and the Latin meaning is equivalent to exclāmāt(us), which means to exclaim.
