Etymology:
The word is derived from the Old French word, title, and the Old English word, titul. The Old French word, title, meant “chapter of a book, position, and legal permit,” while the Old English word, titul, meant “title, heading, or superscription.” Both of these words came from the Latin word, titulus. It means “inscription, label, ticket, placard, heading, and was used as a title of honor.”
