International Students Toolkit

The COVID era has brought significant challenges for remote learners, especially international students. This toolkit offers guidance and resources for faculty to best support these students.

The Collaborative partnered with International Student & Scholar Services and other stakeholders to create some resources to support you as you create classes that are inclusive for all your students regardless of where they are currently learning from.

Opportunities Not Obstacles: Supporting International Students

Learning you have students with time zone differences or Internet issues can send you into problem-solving mode; however, instead of seeing such situations as obstacles that need to be overcome, consider ways that these situations can be built into the foundation of your course so that your students’ different circumstances can enrich (rather than limit) the learning experiences of all students. While not every situation you may encounter this semester will transform perfectly into easy-to-see opportunities, taking this approach will help create an inclusive and innovative learning space where your international (and all your) students feel supported and primed to learn.

Campus Resources

Here is a list of campus resources that might be helpful to your struggling international (and not) students. We recommend sharing it with your students either by attaching it to your syllabus or TLEARN page.

Feel free to share this document either with all your students or just those who are in need of assistance.

ASIANetwork Zoom Summary

Many websites are blocked in China including newspapers, YouTube, Facebook, and Google products. Students may be able to access banned sites using a VPN (Virtual Private Network), but they would be in violation of Chinese law. Requiring Chinese students to use a VPN to engage course materials would put them, their families, and friends at risk.
