Positive Behavior Intervention Supports
Trimble Local Schools is a PBIS (positive behavioral intervention supports) district. We have school-wide expectations that are posted throughout the buildings and are made available to and reviewed with each student often. Each teacher in Trimble Local Schools has their own classroom rules, but incorporates their rules into our school-wide expectations. There are consequences (listed in our Code of Conduct) for not following these expectations. In addition, there are rewards & incentives for students who consistently follow these expectations. We expect our students to be Courteous, Accountable, use Teamwork, and be Safe in and out of the school building. Supports fall under three separate tiers. Tier 1 covers all students, tier 2 covers about 10% of students, and tier 3 covers 3-5% of students. These interventions and supports stack on top of each other, if a student is receiving tier 3 supports they are also receiving tier 2 and tier 1 supports at the same time.
CATS Matrix!
We are CATS! We are courteous and accountable, we use teamwork, we are safe!
Tier 1: Cat-Tastic Program
When a staff member notices that a student is doing or being one of the things in our CATS matrix, they write a "Cat-Paw" for the student where they: name the student, describe what happened, and what category it fell under. Those get turned into the PBIS tier 1 team who then makes a positive contact home to parents and award the student a small prize from the "bin of things." At the end of the 9 weeks, Cat Paws are entered into a random drawing sponsored by Lancaster Wings and Shawna Stump.Â
Tier 1: PAWS
All students enrolled in classes at the high school level take PAWS (Positive Attitudes on Work and School). This class covers the standards that the School Counselor falls under but doesn't always have the time and space to make it happen. This time frame is when we work on graduation planning, social/emotional lessons, suicide prevention rollout, teen dating violence awareness month, service projects, career exploration and planning, job application work, and more. If you have questions about this class, please email Mrs. Miller
Tier 2
Trimble High School is in the beginning stages of rolling out Tier 2 interventions. Parents and staff members who feel like a student needs more supports can nominate a student for Tier 2 (or Tier 3 once staff members have been trained on those interventions) using the nomination form that will later be posted here on this site. The goal of tier 2 supports is to help students move back down into the tier 1 category within a few weeks, but each decision will be made by the Tier 2 team on a case by case basis. Staff has access to the Whole Child nomination form for any services. Parents and students can nominate students by talking directly to the counselor for data collection.
Tier 2: Check In/Check Out
Students selected for this intervention by the tier 2 PBIS team will spend 2-5 minutes checking in with a staff member at the beginning of the day and 2-5 minutes checking out with that same staff member at the end of the day. Each student working on goals within this intervention will have a sheet with their specific goals on it that fall within our matrix. For example: if Ezra Example is really struggling to make it to class on time, they will get their goal sheet from their CICO coordinator that has a goal of "using three minutes wisely to make it to class on time" under the "accountable" portion of their goal sheet. Each teacher will rate Ezra on successfulness throughout the course of the day on a scale of 0-2 and at the end of the day Ezra will chat about how the day went with the staff member working with them. Once Ezra has met the goal consistently across all settings of the day, we begin to transition out and back into "just" tier 1 supports.
