How to Implement

• Show examples of long-exposure photography. Have a large group discussion about what it is and how it works. How do you think photographers took these photo?
• Explain to the girls that they can easily create their own expressive photography using Sphero and a long-exposure app. Prepare an example of a simple shape, such as a square, in the Sphero EDU app. You can demo the program and the process for taking the image.
• Have girls work in groups of three or four. They can decide on roles at the beginning but make sure they get a chance to switch roles.
• They should start by sketching out different ideas for what they want their image to look like in their design journals. Have them brainstorm at least three different ideas each and decide together which one they want to program.
• Have them write out their code in pseudocode.
• As they get done have them swap ideas with another group to get feedback.
• After they have gotten through one round of feedback have them program their code in the Sphero EDU app.
  • Groups can use masking tape to mark out boundaries so Sphero doesn’t disappear out of the frame of the photo.
• Have two groups work together to take the pictures. They may need to go back to the code to make changes if the image doesn’t show up how they thought it would.
