In this activity, the girls will create a felt book for storing their needles. This will give them some sewing practice before they start sewing with conductive thread.

While there are some basic stitches in the Lilypad E-Textiles Guide and Sew Electric, there are also lots of videos online that demonstrate basic sewing techniques. The girls can explore these to find what instructional style works best for them or you can put together a playlist for them.
If you think you need help, this is a good activity to bring in family volunteers who know how to sew. They can help girls with sewing basics--knots, threading needles, attaching snaps, length of thread to avoid frustration, etc.
